It seems to me that the goliath is nothing but a weak, miserable sloth - preying on the productive powers of it's "heretics." You are one of those heretics. One of the goliath's victims.
Deprive it of it's victims for just a moment, and the facade will fall. What once looked strong will collapse into a heap of helplessness.
As an alternative, you speak of self-control. You think this will be enough? Your self-control is nothing but pity. Pity for that which cannot see the rational. That with a static moral code! That which refuses to grow - to learn - to change! That which asks but never gives!
Pity for this demon - this goliath - is exactly what keeps it going! Your self-control is what holds you as a victim. If you are willing to tolerate the entity who accuses you of heresy, you are the cause of the problem. You - sharing the passion of those who created all that is beautiful in this world - are being subserviant to the ones who seek to destroy it!
In the end, they need you. Ask yourself if you need them.
